SATURDAY MORNING PHYSICS
In 1995, the Saturday Morning Physics (SMP) lecture series was started by the University of
Michigan Department of Physics to educate the public about cutting-edge research. Past
lectures, given by post-doctoral researchers, allowed the researchers to refine their
presentation skills for laypeople. Over the years, post-docs, U-M faculty, and scientists from
many other disciplines have presented up-to-the-minute scientific research to the public in an
engaging yet technically accurate way. Each lecture is carefully prepared and accompanied by
various physical demonstrations and multimedia visualization aids. Ten to 15 lectures are given
