As of June 2024, Michigan ranks in the bottom ten states for college enrollment and recovery to pre-pandemic levels. Yet
the state is more invested than ever in education, from early childhood through higher education, with both now supported
by the new Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential (MiLEAP). With U-M ranked among
the top 20 institutions globally and home to Michigan’s top health system, we carry a responsibility to extend the benefits
of our world-class institution across the state—bringing bold innovation, service to the common good, and undergraduate
enrollment that reflects Michigan’s diversity.
I am inspired:
Every time I connect with youth who hope to make their community, the state, and the world a better and safer place.
Every time I see the university deepen its commitment to improving the lives of Michiganders.
Every time I talk to colleagues across campus about their meaningful work.
We are stronger together. CEO has the best teammates in our office and across campus. Our partners in the
Pre-College Youth and Outreach Collective (PCC) and GEAR UP program are among the best in Michigan. Through the
National College Advising Corps, U-M is recognized as a leader and continues to learn alongside some of the best in the
nation. CEO is firmly in the fight to strengthen educational opportunities and outcomes in Michigan. We are grateful to
those already in it with us and eager to invite more to join this important work.
Our question remains: How do we inform state residents about new educational opportunities, engage youth and adults to
pursue them, and inspire them to see Michigan’s great public colleges and universities as their future? Work with us to
answer this question!
