NAF Future Ready Scholars Starts
2019
New Record
With support from the Ford School of Public Policy, the MEZ
creates a STEM-focused college prep program to help
Detroit-area students prepare for success in higher education.
NAF Scholars participate in a two-week residential camp on
U-M’s Ann Arbor campus, as well as once-monthly Saturday
Sessions at the MEZ during the academic year.
The MEZ begins the 2024 robotics season
by serving 23 Detroit-area FIRST Robotics
teams, marking the highest number of high
schools it has supported to date.

MEZ Joins OCCE
With the creation of Michigan Engineering’s
Office of Culture, Community, and Equity, the
MEZ and its programs join other pre-college
programs through Engineering OnRamp.
SPOTLIGHT
Approximately 2,500 middle and high school students come through the MEZ each
year. Some are drawn to MEZ programs through their interest in STEM. Others, like
alumnus Jacob Durrah, discover their passion for engineering while at the MEZ. Jacob
attended high school at Finney High School on Detroit’s west side. He was good at
math, but didn’t know how to put that skill to use—until he visited the MEZ makerspace
with his robotics team.
