GEAR UP U-M Ann Arbor Cohort is Created
U-M’s DEI Plan Commences
The university establishes a 5-year strategic DEI plan, placing CEO under the
Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and shifting CEO’s focus from active direct
services to an educational outreach hub for U-M and outreach professionals.
CEO receives the GEAR UP grant and begins serving 1,000 7th graders.
Virtual Programming is Piloted
In partnership with ITS, the Center for
Academic Innovation and Children on
Campus, CEO launches virtual advising,
Zoom campus visits and new online tools
for K-12 students.
Campus Visits Welcomes Its First Students
CEO commences its first official campus visit program,
bringing hundreds of K-12 students from around
Michigan to visit a college campus for the first time.

Raise Scholars Program Begins
The Raise Scholars Program connects with students
from partner high schools who want to attend U-M.
From 2009 to 2014, CEO pioneered transformative pre-college programs such as Camp Kinomaage, College 101, Future U, Maximizing Academic Success (MAS),
Pillars, Ready-Set-Go Blue!, the Real on College Theatre Troupe, Rising Scholars, Speakers Bureau, Conversations on Promoting Pathways and Access to Higher
Education Speaker Series, and the Youth Leadership Experience. These groundbreaking efforts evolved into many CEO initiatives still seen today. This timeline
celebrates ongoing programs, built on the unwavering commitment and visionary work of CEO’s early team and outreach partners. Their dedication laid a strong
foundation, enabling CEO to inspire, engage, and transform lives through education.
