READY, SET, GO BLUE!
In 2014, CEO launched its first elementary initiative with the Ready, Set, Go Blue! pilot program. They partnered
with one local elementary school in Ypsilanti to serve each of its 3rd-grade classes. The program consisted of
three fun, engaging and informative workshops that were approximately 45 minutes long, offered once a week
and facilitated by program staff. It took place in the classroom at the partner school. Included in the workshops
were educational games, activities, and discussions on various topics related to the lessons. A final fourth
workshop consisted of a field trip to visit the University of Michigan campus, which included a tour of buildings,
museums, libraries, and labs and a meeting with U-M faculty members. A college readiness workbook was
created for students and their families and the program provided information on summer programs for older
family members. Most importantly, Ready, Set, Go Blue! committed to working with teachers to create a
developmentally appropriate curriculum that created a college-going atmosphere within the school that was
fun and educationally meaningful.
