FUTURE U
Future U was an enrichment program for academically talented middle school students. The program consisted
of hands-on activities and projects that exposed students to various academic disciplines. Students also
participated in leadership development, cultural enrichment, and college exploration activities and programs.
Partner schools nominated 25 academically motivated students to begin participation in the 6th grade and
continue until completion in the 8th grade.
2010-2011, 14 U-M students served as Future U mentors/student leaders and over 150 students and parents
from Garden City, Detroit Community Middle School, University Preparatory Academy and Phoenix
Academy participated in Future U activities
225 participants in the 2013-2014 program
95% of all student participants indicated that doing well in school academically was moderately or
extremely important to getting into college
