WATSON A. YOUNG SCHOLARSHIP
The Watson A. Young Scholarship (Watson) is a prestigious, need-based award enabling students
to attend pre-college summer programs at the University of Michigan. This scholarship honors the
legacy of Dr. Watson A. Young, a 1942 graduate of the U-M Medical School and a highly respected
Michigan physician, by addressing the financial barriers that often hinder students' educational
journeys. Summer enrichment opportunities are critical in shaping the educational trajectories of
K-12 students, providing them with transformative experiences that cultivate their interests and
abilities. Opportunities offered because of Watson ensure that financial constraints do not impede
students' pursuit of academic excellence and their aspirations for college success. It is also an
opportunity to partner with many campus units to expand their reach. By engaging faculty, staff
and students to promote the scholarship, connecting with high school students through Wolverine
Express, MCAC, and GEAR UP, CEO strengthens student awareness of summer programs.
